Dental FAQs

Your First Appointment

If you are not registered with us, you will need to fill out a medical questionnaire.
At your first appointment you will have a dental examination where the tissues supporting your teeth are examined, including appropriate lymph and salivary glands and tongue.
You will also be given a gum assessment and have your teeth examined. Also where appropriate we will discuss X-rays to be taken. You will receive preventive advice, and if any treatment is required, treatment options and costs will be discussed with you and a treatment plan with fees provided.
Your first dental examination can be anything between 30 minutes to 60 minutes in duration.  If you require any further treatment this will be discussed with you by your dentist.

After your initial consultation with the dentist, he or she may refer you to either our dental hygienist or specialist. This will typically be for treatments such as:

  • dentists specialising in the care of anxious and phobic patients
  • endodontists (root canal therapy)
  • oral surgeons (eg wisdom teeth)
  • orthodontists (eg straightening teeth)
  • periodontists (gum disease treatment)
  • prosthodontics (restorative dentistry)
  • dental implants
